Capital Financial Group’s Memphis office is excited to be participating in the 8th annual Kick It 5K benefiting the Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation this year. The Kick It 5K is working to raise $150,000 this year towards awareness and fund pancreatic cancer research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
About 53,670 people each year are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, with 43,090 dying of the disease each year. It is one of the most difficult diseases to diagnose, because there are no definitive symptoms, and standard tests often return regular results. Symptoms often include pain, weight loss, jaundice, loss of appetite, nausea, change in stool, pancreatitis, and recent-onset diabetes.
We are particularly excited to be a part of this event this year because we have three employees at our Memphis office that have close family members who are currently battling or battled pancreatic cancer. We are running in honor of Julie Ann Doan, (Elizabeth Key’s aunt and Derek Morris’ mother-in-law) and in memory of Martha Ann Wingfield (Lane Arthur’s mother. At this year’s event, our goal is to have 10 runners for CFG’s team, The Tumornators. Also, this year we will have a tent set up with food and drinks for our runners, walkers and families.
